      THE FIRST EXPERIMENT

      How to play Riverforge

Texas Hold’em betting, with one decision that changes the river.

      1. Start with three. Each player gets three private cards. Bet, then reveal the three-card flop and bet again.
      2. Keep two. Contribute one. Every player still in the hand locks one card face down. Choices stay secret—even from the last player to choose.
      3. Seal the pool. Add one unseen dealer card. Shuffle the candidates into a separate pool. Your candidate stays even if you fold later.
      4. Play the turn. Deal the fourth community card from the original deck. Bet again.
      5. Draw the river. Randomly reveal one pool card as the fifth community card. Final betting, then showdown.
      6. Best five wins. Use any five of your two retained cards and the five community cards. Ties split the pot.
      All-ins, side pots & ties

All-in players still lock a contribution before any private hands are revealed. A player can win only the pots they contributed to. Each side pot is awarded separately. Uncalled excess returns to its owner. A short all-in does not reopen raising unless the cumulative increase faced is at least a full raise. Odd chips in a tie go clockwise from the seat left of the dealer button. If everyone else folds, the remaining player wins immediately.

      Poker hands, strongest first
      1. Royal flush / straight flush
      2. Four of a kind
      3. Full house
      4. Flush
      5. Straight
      6. Three of a kind
      7. Two pair
      8. One pair
      9. High card

Aces can be high, or low in A–2–3–4–5. Suits never break a tie.

      Ring and Tournament formats

Ring: choose a starting buy-in of 100–1,000,000 chips. Blinds scale to a 50-big-blind starting stack and remain fixed for the table. Rebuys use 20–100 big blinds, subject to a 100-chip minimum and 1,000,000-chip maximum; winning stacks may grow above that. Busted bots rebuy their original stack using their own play chips. Your rebuys come from your wallet. Cash out between hands. Sitting out keeps your chips. After missing a hand, return by waiting for your next big blind. A paused table can restart heads-up with a waiting seat. Tournament: single-table freezeout, no re-entry or antes. Choose levels by completed hands or a pausable clock; new blinds apply only to the next deal. Equal starting stacks busting on the same hand share a finish position. Your first button is chosen by a separate high-card draw. Existing saves remain Practice tables until you start a new format.

Ring uses the WSOP live-action baseline; Tournament uses Poker TDA procedures. Riverforge’s contribution timing, pooled river and delayed all-in reveal until choices are sealed are declared variant rules. All play uses virtual chips.

      Career, XP & cosmetic unlocks

Start at level 1 with 10,000 wallet chips. Career Ring buy-ins and top-ups debit the wallet; a whole-stack cash-out credits it between hands. Choose a tournament entry from 100 to 1,000,000 wallet chips. Each player starts with twice that amount in event chips, and blinds scale to 50 big blinds. Choose winner takes all, or top-three prizes with 4–9 seats: third gets their entry back, second gets 30% of the pool, and first gets the rest. Tied finishers share the prizes for all occupied places. Existing events keep their original prize structure. Tournament stacks are separate and have no cash-out value. Earn 10 XP for completing a hand you were dealt into, plus 5 when your ending stack exceeds your starting stack. At showdown, your best hand adds 2 XP for high card through 1,000 for a royal flush; losing and tied hands also qualify. Add 10 XP if your contribution becomes the revealed river and you remain in the hand at the finish. Folded hands earn no rank or river bonus. The Hand XP guide lists every bonus. Watching after elimination, practice and sitting out earn no career XP. Level 2 needs 100 total XP, level 3 needs 300, then level 4 needs 600; each next level costs 100 more XP than the last, with no designed final level. Level rewards start at 500 wallet chips and increase by 50 at levels 5, 10, 15, and every five levels after. Career statistics power repeatable challenges: goals are lifetime totals, earned XP is claimed on your career page, and missed claims never expire. Hand-collection goals require your own showdown; watching, folds and incomplete hands do not count. Common-hand tier goals grow faster than rare-hand goals. Future challenge rewards increase up to three times their starting XP; already-earned older claims keep their value. Designs unlock at the levels shown in the locker and give no gameplay advantage. If your wallet is below 500 and you have no funded career seat or pending prize, claim 2,000 comeback chips at most once every 24 hours. Career is stored on this browser; existing saves continue outside career until you enter a new career table.

      Arcana · free card-effects practice

Each player has one enchanted card. After the flop, lock use or pass before flop betting. Ten free powers: Reforge, Scout, Current, Beacon, Undertow, Whisper, Drift, Second Wind, Gambit and Lantern. Choose use/pass after the flop. Gambit replacements reveal together before betting; Second Wind pauses after the turn for a keep/exchange decision. Current, Beacon and Undertow adjust enchanted contributions to 2×, 3× and ½× draw weight. Whisper privately sees the dealer candidate, Drift swaps an enchanted contribution for an unseen card, and Lantern publicly reveals a pool candidate. Power use is public; private peeks and discards stay with their owner. Cards remain unique, and regular hand rankings and side pots apply. Arcana has no career wallet, XP or challenge effects.

This is an unverified game-design prototype. The rules and opponents will change as we test. Solo play runs locally. Private rooms use server-dealt cards and a separate online wallet. Cloud backups are manual and replace only the version you confirm. The Riverforge variant is not an official Hold’em rule set.

      Table options

Living Table has 30 fictional AI regulars, uneven opening stacks, open seats, departures and arrivals between hands. New buy-ins obey table limits; established stacks can include prior play chips. Each AI visit has a finite rebuy budget. This is simulated solo play, not human multiplayer.

Personality changes play style; difficulty controls skill. Adaptive opponents learn from public actions at this table. Their memory saves with your game and resets at a new table.

      Meet the ten personalities

Patient waits for good spots. Bold builds pots. Balanced mixes its moves. Tricky adds deception. Caller likes to see more cards. Rock rarely bluffs. Pressure favors larger bets. Short-stack becomes more decisive below 12 big blinds. Opportunist presses later streets. Adaptive gradually changes its approach using public betting habits, with more weight on recent play.

      Table rules & save details

Choose a buy-in from 100 to 1,000,000 chips. Both modes start with 50 big blinds. Ring blinds stay fixed for that table; rebuys and top-ups use the limits shown. Tournament starts with twice the entry in event chips and raises blinds at the chosen level length, with no re-entry. Both use three starting cards and the Riverforge river pool, with no antes or rake. Timed clocks pause when this tab is hidden; resume with the clock button. Ring stacks cash out when you switch tables after a hand. Tournament entry and prizes scale with the selected buy-in. Choose winner takes all, or top-three payouts with 4–9 players. Fixed-lineup Ring opponents rebuy before the next deal using their own play chips. Living Table players can rebuy, top up, or leave according to their own session budgets and habits; replacements join under the blind-entry rules. The player count is the table’s seat capacity. Living Table does not affect Tournament, Rival Run or free practice. Tournament chips cannot be cashed out. Starting a new table saves the previous table in your session history. Downloads include the current and earlier tables, with the latest 200 detailed hands and all notes. Older tables and chip ledgers are summarized to keep long careers small enough for browser storage. History stays on this browser; download a copy to keep it elsewhere.

      YOUR CAREER PROGRESS STAYS SAVED

Career XP, unlocked designs and notes save automatically. Saving a table keeps your seat; leaving closes it.

      Leave this tournament?

Your entry stays spent, and you give up your chance at this tournament’s prize. Tournament chips cannot be cashed out. Your earned XP, level rewards, and table history are kept.

      CHOOSE YOUR CHALLENGE

      Opponent difficulty

The original mix of patient, bold, and tricky opponents.

All levels use their own cards and public information. A change starts next hand and keeps your chips and history. Hard adapts to public betting patterns and uses approximate hand estimates. Mixed keeps a different level on each opponent; heads-up picks one level for that table. These opponents are still experimental.

      BETWEEN HANDS

      Ring chips & seats

Buy-in and top-up limits depend on this table’s fixed blinds. New and returning seats wait for the big blind; an immediate sit-out cancellation before any new hand keeps your seat active. Controls apply between hands. At existing tables outside career, you can arrange bot seats for testing. Career controls apply to your seat. Added chips are tracked separately from winnings.

      What is shared?

Diagnostic category counts stay on this browser when sharing is off. Nothing is sent until you enable sharing.

Your game account is linked to summary XP, level, chips, hands and tournament totals; current format, stakes, difficulty and hand phase; counts of actions, error categories and note categories; game/rules version; page layout and broad device/browser family.

Reports contain no private cards, saved deck, notes or messages, player names, email, precise location, or browsing history. They are visible to the site owner through private site management. Browser-reported solo progress is used for testing, never to award online chips or rankings.

Up to five browsers can report for one account. We retain the latest summary and daily checkpoints for up to 90 days; expired reports are removed as reporting runs. Reporting is occasional and failure never stops play. Offline changes are summarized next time a report succeeds.

Stop sharing disables reports for this account. Delete shared reports also removes its reporting history; your career, cloud backups and online wallet are kept. Other devices need to enable sharing again after either action. There is no designed final career level; more cosmetic milestones can be added without resetting XP.
